Tour for Kids: Tips and Techniques – Fundraising

June is come and gone, and that can only mean one thing:  Tour for Kids is almost round the corner.  You are probably focused right now on your training and conditioning and getting ready for an amazing event and the highlight of your summer riding experience.  However, as you put those hours into your training program, don’t forget the cause you are riding for, and how much the kids depend on every dollar you raise to make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer.  As you know, you have a minimum fundraising requirement (although we hope you go much further!) for the event.  The fundraising minimums are posted below:

Fundraising Minimum Ontario
$1250 4-day
$750 2-day

Fundraising Minimum Alberta
$1,000 3-day

On the Tour for Kids website, we’ve posted lots of tips on how to reach your fundraising minimum.  We encourage each of you to review this valuable information http://www.tourforkids.com/fundraising/index.php

Tour for Kids

You’ll find that raising your minimum requirement isn’t that difficult.  For example, here’s an example of how you can raise $1,000 in one week:

Day 1:  Ask 6 family members to donate $50 $300
Day 2:  Ask 5 friends to contribute $20 $100
Day 3:  Ask 5 co-workers to donate $20 $100
Day 4:  Ask your boss to match your co-workers $100
Day 5:  Ask 5 neighbours to donate $20 $100
Day 6:  Ask 4 businesses you use to donate $50 $200
Day 7:  Sponor yourself for $100 $100
Congratulations, you’ve raised $1,000

Additional Tips to Raise the Minimum and Beyond:

  • Promote yourself in your local paper/radio/tv and tap unknown additional financial donations
  • Write a personal fundraising letter to everyone on your (e)mailing list
  • Send a link to Tour for Kids website/video to your sponsors and potential donors
  • Hold a fundraising party or event.  Your potential sponsors and donors are more likely to sponsor you at a higher level once they have a better understanding of the cause
  • Get your company to match donations you raise.  Tell your donors and sponsors to check with their company to see if they will match their donations to Tour for Kids
  • Use social media to get your message out including Facebook, Twitter, and any others you participate in
  • Organize a “spin” or other fundraising event at your health club, your office to benefit your fundraising

Riding for...

Most of all remember most people are generous of heart and will be willing to donate to the cause of childhood cancer.  Remind them that every dollar you raise (100%) goes directly to the charities and programs we support.  Good luck!
