Golf Against Kids Cancer 2011 Review
On Monday, June 13th 2011, I had the privilege of taking part in a very special event; Golf Against Kids Cancer. Produced by Investors Group and in collaboration with the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation, Golf Against Kids Cancer was arranged with one specific goal in mind; to honour, in loving memory, the life of a beloved young girl named Jenna Santelli who lost her battle with childhood cancer. With this goal in mind, the passionate Golf Against Kids Cancer coordinating team created a brilliant event by providing a top-notch golf experience for co-workers, clients, sponsors and friends while raising money to benefit children and teens living with and beyond cancer.
The prestigious Glencairn Golf Club set the scene for what would be an elegant, well-executed, fun-filled, emotional day. Friendly staff and volunteers greeted the golfers as they arrived, while coffee and muffins were offered in the clubhouse to start the day. Golf carts awaited each pair of golfers and we were set to go. Aside from a few bouts of uncooperative weather, the atmosphere at the event was nothing but sunshine! After 18 holes of golf (or in some cases, ‘golf ball hunts in the woods’), the guests were invited to come together in the clubhouse for an evening reception hosted by none other than former CFL great, Chuck Ealey. Every guest was invited to indulge in some fine dining, silent auction bidding, exquisite prize giveaways and touching speeches. The food was superb, the conversation was delightful and the experience was absolutely applause worthy. But I would have to say, that the most remarkable part of the evening was a moment where nothing happened at all. A moment of silence was asked of guests to honour the lost loved one, Jenna, and every child who has been faced with this horrific disease. In this moment, over two-hundred people joined together and created something wonderful. They created a community made up of individuals who believe in making a difference in the lives of children living with and beyond cancer. It was very powerful. Moments like these emphasize the theory that a small group of dedicated individuals can make a difference. Every guest in attendance that day made a difference.

My only question now is, Have you marked Golf Against Kids Cancer on June 25th 2012 on your calendar?
See you there!
