back
to dedications
Margaret Clayton
submitted by Karen Lamberton
On October 21, 2001 we lost Margaret, our mom,
grandma and wife, to colon cancer. Mom was diagnosed only 6 months
earlier, with cancer that was too far-gone to really have much
hope. After some radiation and chemo, mom was feeling pretty good
and hoping for a more positive outcome from surgery. Unfortunately,
as soon as the surgeons went in they determined the cancer could
not even be removed. That was the lowest point in the short battle
our family faced. Mom was extremely brave, although I'm sure inside
she must have been scared as well. In the summer of 2001, each
of my 4 siblings and I made as many trips home to Winnipeg as
we could, with my sister remaining there for the final 5 weeks
of Mom's life. Mom was a nurse by profession, although she did
as much nursing of people non-professionally! Mom was the centre
of our family - although all 5 of us kids have moved to many cities
during the past 25 years, we've always said "Home is where
your Mom is".
We have missed her terribly - but have taken a lot of strength
from her, her battle, and our struggle as a family dealing with
grief. We are strong, and each of us has made some amazing changes
in our lives this past year. I think we all have a guardian angel
watching over us.
