back
to dedications
Aunt Helen was born in Montrose, Nova Scotia,
the oldest of five children. She moved to Ottawa in the early
1940's to work for the federal government retiring after 35 years
of service. She meet her husband, Uncle Jerry, in Ottawa and they
married in 1955. She was widowed in 1967. Our family has many
memories of them in Brantford for holidays and they always had
a camera in hand. We have many home movies and photos thanks to
them. Aunt Helen was a true Ottawa Roughriders fans and for many,
many years was a season ticket holder. Today she is still an avid
sports fans - baseball, hockey, curling - she follows them faithfully.
In January of 2003, she underwent surgery for bowel cancer and
is presently undergoing chemotherapy. She remains very positive
and takes each day as it comes.
UPDATE
June 17th - As Jeff and team continued their
C2C trek - Jeff received the
news that his Great Aunt Helen had died quietly at home. In honour
of her
memory Jeff will continue the ride to Halifax, Nova Scotia - the
birth
province of Helen and her sister, Dorothy Rushton - Jeff's Grandmother.
Once again, we, as a family are reminded in a vivid way of the
need to find
a cure for cancer. Thank you Jeff and each member of the C2C team
for
giving of your time, your energy and you very selves to help raise
both
funds and awareness for cancer research and support services.
