Making a Meaningful Difference in the Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Mason Boult

Age: 3 | Milton Ontario

Mason Boult

  • Hobbies and Interests: Superheroes, cars, swimming
  • Type of cancer that has affected me or my family: Retinoblastoma

Number of years on treatment: I had surgery to remove my left eye on September 18, 2009.

Number of celebrated years off treatment: I will have to have quarterly follow-up treatments at Sick Kids for 5 years.

My toughest challenge with childhood cancer:  Adjusting to life with one eye and the challenges that go along with wearing a prosthetic.

Describe some great things that have come about through your journey of childhood cancer: I have so much support from family and friends who’ve all gone above and beyond to show me how much they love me.  I was also the youngest survivor ever to participate in the Milton Relay for Life so I got to cut the opening ceremonies ribbon with the mayor and everyone cheered for me as I ran around the track for the survivor’s lap.

Describe your Best Day: My best day was last Halloween when I got to dress up as Batman and go trick or treating.

Tell us about your Worst Day: My worst day was waking up in the hospital scared and confused following the enucleation of my left eye.
